A large portion of The Siren needed to take place in a fishing town. I did some research and found a little village named Port Clyde that did a lot of lobster trapping and thought “eh, that’ll do”. I pretty much just chose it out of a book. Part way through writing the story, I knew I'd have to go there. I wanted to describe everything the right way.
It turns out Port Clyde was practically everything I envisioned. From the tiny restaurant to the little seam of a beach, it was just what I had dreamed up in my head. It was so perfect, I even met the real life incarnation of one of my characters (I'm talking name, physical details, personality- the whole shebang)! It was absolutely beautiful there, and I find myself daydreaming about my cozy little room in the bed and breakfast all the time. I have to go back some day. And, if you haven't been there yet, you should visit, too!
