First Review for The One

It's barely two months until The One hits shelves, and I know you guys are always aching to hear more news about it. Well, I just got the first review back from Publishers Weekly. This is what they had to say:

"America is as willful and defiant as ever, making her both a target of King Clarkson’s wrath and the darling of the people of Illea. She and Maxon continue to butt heads even as the chemistry between them remains palpable."

Officially Kiera

After trying to register myself on a social media site recently only to find there was already a Kiera Cass on there pretending to be me, I realized it might be helpful for you guys to have a list of all the social media sites I’m actually on, and the names I’m listed under. This way, if you only want the serious book stuff, you know exactly where to go. Or if you're looking for shenanigans, well, I can help you there as well!

But let’s start with my website. Everything on this site is 100% official and completely book related. I keep this as up to date as possible since this is the hub. If there is something you feel should be covered here and isn't, please leave a comment. I want you guys to be able to find all the information you need somewhere here!

Twitter- (Kiera Cass) Twitter is probably the way I communicate with my readers the most. It’s the fastest way to get information out, and I sometimes share things there before I do on my website. It depends. It’s a little bit of everything: book stuff, family stuff, lots of lyrics, and I like to do chats (a la Question Monday) there. I do not follow back, but I do read ALL of my replies. Even if I don't respond, I see you!

Facebook- (Professional: Kiera Cass) I do have a personal facebook page, but I am no longer adding people there if I do not know you and am in the process of deleting most unknown friends. Unless I ask you to, please don't send me a friend reqest. Also, I do not read the direct messages here. I post lots of book things on my personal page but am currently moving all bookish things to my author page. It is co-run by Samantha (who set up the page and ran it almost completely on her own for years, all the while giving me access to it. Very cool!) and myself. All official book things.

Tumblr- (partylikeawordstar) This started as a place to collect awesome fanmade art, AUs, etc. I reblog a lot of that, as well as a bunch of stuff about One Direction and the book world in general. I also tend to answer questions there because I can do it in a longer form than twitter. This is a pretty laid back version of me, and not intended to be a professional platform. I share things there because there's a fandom, but it's pretty chill. Tags I check: Kiera Cass, partylikeawordstar, The Selection, The Elite. Not The One because of random junk.

Youtube- (kieracass) My channel is a mix of things. I make lots of videos following the publishing process, as well as general videos about life, and there’s a bunch of stuff about my kids. I don't post there often these days, but I still love making videos.

Pinterest- (Kiera Cass) I do have boards dedicated to every book I've made at the moment. I also have ones about food, clothes, Rob Pattinson, and things that make me laugh. I don't update often.

Vine- (Kiera Cass) Almost exclusively videos of my kids. This is mostly for me and my family to enjoy, but you’re welcome to follow. Tags I check: KieraCass, TheSelection.

Instagram- (partylikeawordstar) This is a new one for me, and I don’t intend to use it very often, but you never know. Tags I might check: partylikeawordstar, KieraCass, TheSelection

There are a handful of other places you can find me as well like GoodReads and Google+, but I am never there. It's a waste to try to contact me through those mediums.

I hope this explains things and helps you decide what's most useful for you as a reader. Naturally, I can't participate in everything, so my time on certain places is limited. I would personally suggest you find me on twitter to be most up to date. Thanks for hanging out with me!

News, The One

Happy Valentine's Day!

If you somehow missed it, today I shared six new teasers from THE ONE. Just in case you didn't catch them (or any of the others I've shared so far) here they are. All sneak peeks in the future can be found on The One's FAQ page.

#1: "I apologize for being out of uniform, sir."

#2: "Come out, Mer, it's Max."

#3: I found myself admiring them, wondering at the courage it took to run toawrd danger for the sake of other people.

#4: There is a different kind of beauty that comes with humility and honesty.

#5: "No one will know. And seeing as you were with the prince, I won’t ask questions. Whatever you did, I’ll trust it was something important."

#6: I watched as the palace was transformed. Almost overnight, lush Christmas trees lined the hallways of the first floor, garlands were strung down the stairways, and all the floral arrangements were changed to include holly or mistletoe.

#7: "I need your help." Without batting an eye, he responded. "Anything.

#8: "I didn't stand a chance, did I?"

#9: "Are you scared?" he asked. "No." "Me neither." But I was pretty sure we were both lying.

#10: I felt our noses brush in the dark, and the urge to kiss him came unexpectedly fast.

#11: "It makes me nervous to feel some of the things I do. But I want you to know, I'm still looking at you, too."

#12: His body was now up against mine, his hand low on my back, holding me to him.

Heading to Target!

Hey all! I just wanted to let you all know, there's another place for you to get a signed copy of The One! Target is offering an online only pre order of signed copies of The One. I'm very excited about this because if you wanted to get a signed copy, but maybe didn't want to get the Barnes and Noble special edition with the bonus stuff, you finally have that option.

Let me try to get to some questions before they get asked:

  • Does this have the poster and bonus chapters? No!
  • Will this be available in stores? No!
  • What about internationally? You'll have to check Target's shipping policies. I have nothing to do with that.

I think that's all for now. Enjoy!

Special Edition! 2.0!

Guys. You guys, listen. Listen, okay? I’ve been keeping a secret. It’s true, I’ve been hiding something. But it’s time to come clean.

You know about the special Barnes and Noble edition of The One that comes with a delicious poster and a bonus scene. We've discussed this. It’s out there. Well, what you don’t know is... that you can get that special edition signed!

Yes, I’ve been working away, signing tip in sheets (little pages that say The One on them that I sign and will then be bound into the actual books) for a few weeks now. I’m so excited this exists because, while I will be touring this spring (dates to follow!), I won’t be able to come everywhere. So hopefully this means a few of you who wouldn’t be able to get a signed copy otherwise will now.

Just to be absolutely clear, there are a limited number of signed copies, so run along. And, yes, it will still have the bonus scene and poster. The description isn’t 100% clear, but it will! If you have questions, leave them and I’ll try to follow up soon.

News, The Selection Stories

The Selection Stories Audiobook

A few months ago, a handful of voices were sent my way as possibilites to speak the parts of Aspen and Maxon for The Selection Stories. I listened to all my options... about a dozen times! And then narrowed it down to my top pick and backup for both.

I'm so happy to tell you today that both of my top picks were able to do the audiobook of The Selection Stories! Nick Podhel will be the voice of Maxon, and Tristan Morris will be the voice of Aspen. You can listen to them introducing themselves on HarperCollin's soundcloud page!

While we're talking about this though, I want to give a little shout out to Amy Rubinate, who has voiced America for all of the books. She's been hanging out all along and has done a really lovely job. You can listen to a sample of Amy reading as America on the Amazon page.

How do you feel about the voices of our three main characters? Personally, I'm stoked!

The Guard, The Selection Stories

An Update on The Selection Stories and The Guard

So it’s 2014. February is just around the corner which means that very soon, you will be able to get your hands on The Guard and The Selection Stories. I’ve been aching for a while to talk about every little thing you’re going to get in The Selection Stories, so grab your Skittles and pay attention, because this is everything that’s going to be in bind-up:

-The long awaited novella from Aspen’s point of view, The Guard.

-The Prince. But not just any old version. An extended version. You heard me!

-The complete list of the Selected girls

-The breakdown of the castes

-A Q&A with me. I’m Kiera. I wrote the books.

-The playlist for The Selection, along with where lyrics tie into lines from the book.

-The same thing for The Elite’s playlist.

-America, Aspen, and Maxon’s family trees with some bonus details to explain their families.

-And, of course, the first three chapters of The One!

Now, if you’ve already purchased The Prince, and you don’t want all that extra stuff, you can still order the ebook of The Guard and receive the first two chapters of The One with that.

Either way, awesome things are coming this year.

Trust me when I say, this is only the cake. The frosting has yet to come. And there will be sprinkles eventually. Trust.

Both go on sale February 4th!

FOLLOW UP: There were several questions raised about content, where to pre-order, and a few other things. I did a blog post to clear things up. Please leave any new questions there, and I'll add on!

Fun things!

Hello, all! I just wanted to update you on a few things in The Selection world.

First, yes, back from Brazil, which was awesome. Hoping to find time to make a video, but not sure it'll happen! Maybe a blog post will be the best I can do. And France is just around the corner... like... this time next week holy poop!

Second, if you didn't know, there's a fanart contest happening on tumblr! Hop on over and make your best art. Prizes include signed books, a tumblr follow from me, and a one-on-one chat.

And three, there will be more to come from other places, but, for now, here is your first deleted scene from The Elite! You can find it under the bonus content section for The Elite listed on my BOOKS page. Enjoy!

Covers! So many covers!

In case you didn't see MTV's wonderful reveal yesterday, here is the final, actual cover art for THE ONE:

I'm absolutely in love with it and want to say a thousand things, but there are other covers to discuss, so lets move on! We also revealed the cover art for THE SELECTION STORIES:

I love her face here! So pretty! Now, you may already know that THE SELECTION STORIES will contain THE PRINCE, THE GUARD, and a bunch of other goodies from me. But if you already have your e-copy of THE PRINCE and would like to only purchase an e-copy of THE GUARD, you can! And this will be the cover you're looking for:

And there you have it! Those are all the remaining covers for Selectiony books. It's a little strange to have them all out there, but I'm still looking forward to you getting to read all these things hiding behind these lovely covers. THE GUARD will (I hope) help everyone see Aspen's logic, THE SELECTION STORIES will have some exciting bonus features that I seriously cannot wait to gush about, and THE ONE... well, it's everything I hoped it would be, and I can't for you to see how it all ends.

What do you think of the covers? Shout out in the comments!

Contact

Over the years, I've prided myself in personally responding to all the emails readers would send me. Then a little while after The Selection came out, I had to start using a form response. And then there were so many emails I could hardly make time to read them all! It's a really cool problem to have, but I've felt very guilty about not being able to write back. So, as of today, there is no longer an email form on my contact page. I make myself very available through twitter, tumblr, and facebook, and if there are brief questions, I can usually answer them there. Also! I do have an FAQ page, and 90% of the time, the things you're asking about are already answered there.

I hope that those of you who want to say hi will still stop by and tweet at me from time to time. I'm having to cut back on some things to keep doing this job well, and I think this will make things smoother for all of us.

If you happen to have questions about rights or events, my agent and my publicist are both listed on my contact page and will be able to help with professional inquiries.

Thanks for being so enthusiastic, guys! And I hope to keep hearing from you!

Update on Brazil!

Hello, lovelies! Ok, so there are still a lot of questions to answer about my upcoming trip to Brazil, but I wanted to go ahead and hand over what I know. Honestly, it’s not much at the moment, but stay tuned for further updates!

My schedule:

Friday, October 25: Panel and signing at the FLICA festival in Cachoeira

Monday, October 28: Signing (and Q&A?) in Rio de Janeiro

Tuesday, October 29: Signing (and Q&A?) in Sao Paulo

And that’s about it! See, not much! But I will tell you this: If I’m taking the time to travel to another country, you can bet that I want to meet you. So I’m going to do everything I can to make myself available to you all while I’m there.

Depending on limitations imposed by the festival or bookstores, there may be a cap on how many books I can sign or how pictures are taken, but know that I absolutely want to have a moment with you, even if it only lasts a few seconds. You can help things go smoothly by following any guidelines that are set in place by the event makers and trying to be patient as sometimes those signings can take a while. I wasn’t expecting things to be as big as they were in the Philippines, and you guys seem just as excited! So, just in case one or more of these events gets into the hundreds of people again, know that I would never leave without signing everyone’s books, so don’t stress if you end up being the last person in line.

As our times and locations are finalized, I will post more on my events page. Thanks for having me, Brazil! Callaway and I are getting very excited for our visit!

News

And away we go!

Tomorrow, we start the first leg of my first ever international trip to visit the Philippines! I’m going to do my best to keep you guys updated about events and just share the fun, but it might be a little hard. For the best and quickest updates, please follow me on twitter. I’m @kieracass! Looking forward to the adventure. Updates soon!

I'm Coming to Brazil!

I’m so excited to finally announce that I’M COMING TO BRAZIL! I’ll be at the FLICA Book Festival on October 25th! I will also be heading to Sao Paulo around that time as well. I don’t have any info on specific events or signings at the moment, but as soon as the plans become more solid, I’ll share.

For now, please refer to the FLICA web site for any questions you have, and I will probably have more updates once I get back from the Philippines. One trip at a time!

That said, I seriously can’t wait to come. My Brazilian fans have been some of my most enthusiastic, and I cannot wait to meet/hug you. See you in October!

ANNOUNCING! Selection Stories: The Prince & The Guard

You guys asked, and we delivered! I’m stoked to announce The Selection Stories: The Prince and The Guard AND The Guard coming to you February 4th, 2014! The Guard is another e-novella, this time telling part of The Elite from Aspen’s point of view. I feel like Aspen gets misunderstood a lot, so I can’t wait for you to see America through his eyes.

Coming out simultaneously with the e-novella is The Selection Stories. Now, this will contain both The Prince and The Guard in printed format, a sneak peek at The One, as well as some deeper information on the entire series compiled by yours truly! So many of you have asked if Maxon’s story would be made available in paperback, and now it will be right along with Aspen’s. But, if you’re happy with your e-copy, and only want to get The Guard, that option is out there, too!

I’m really excited about all this, and I can’t wait to share every last scrap of information I can before The One comes out May 6th. Hope you guys like it!

I'm coming to the Philippines!

Ahh! I’m so thrilled to finally announce that I am coming to the Philippines this August! I’ve been sitting on this news a while, ABSOLUTELY dying to tell you all about it. I’ll be in Manila on August 3 and Cebu on August 4, so if you’re in the area, please come out and see me (and Callaway). I have to give a massive thank you to the wonderful people at National Bookstore for putting on these events and for being so helpful in organizing everything over the last few months. Even though I’m TERRIFIED about the flights, I can’t wait to see you there. My readers in the Philippines have been some of my sweetest, so I’m packing extra hugs for you guys. If you have questions, I’ll try to find answers for you as soon as I can.  Otherwise, see you next month!
