Roundup!

A lot has gone on this week so I thought it might be handy to put it all in one place for you. So, in case you missed it, here’s what happened this week:

First, you guys asked for it, and we finally got it. HarperTeen has released the music from the trailer for The One which, as it turns out, was made especially for that video. You can download it here.

Second, Margot tagged me in the Epic Reads Book Tag. The video is below. If you want to participate, make a video, label it Epic Reads Book Tag, answer the questions, and tag your friends!

Third, I may have done some normal, non-interesting, totally average readings of quotes from The Selection series. If you want to see, here you go.

And finally, my first round of events are up. Yes, I will be going on tour for The Heir. Dates and cities will be coming very soon! And, yes, there are some international trips in the works, but I cannot talk about them until they’re final.

I think that’s pretty much everything. Oh, I also saw this guy. Now we’re done.

Book News, General, The Heir

As 2014 draws to a close...

I want to give you guys a few updates, but first let me say thanks. 2014 was the craziest and awesomest year I've had since I began the journey of publishing The Selection back in 2010. I saw the #1 spot on the NYT list for a second time (something that I though was IMPOSSIBLE!), traveled to new countries, did my first ever solo tour, and got to extend the Selection Series by TWO MORE BOOKS!

These things only happened because of you. And I'm so, so grateful that you guys are as excited about the people in my head as I am. Trust me when I say there are lots of exciting things coming in the new year, and I can't wait to share them with you. For now, I just wanted to make you aware of two things:

First, in case you've missed it, Selection jewelry now exists! Viviane Hebel, who has done some excellent work with other bookish jewelry has added America's songbird necklace, the northstar necklace, Maxon's bracelet, and the engagement ring to her collection. People have been sending in pics, and they look spectacular! Please tweet photos at me if you get something yourself.

Second, the holidays are upon us. With The Heir just around the corner, I thought it might be time for you to get to know the new voice in my head. So here, as a little present from me to you, are the opening lines of The Heir. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas, nerds. I love you!

Officially Kiera

After trying to register myself on a social media site recently only to find there was already a Kiera Cass on there pretending to be me, I realized it might be helpful for you guys to have a list of all the social media sites I’m actually on, and the names I’m listed under. This way, if you only want the serious book stuff, you know exactly where to go. Or if you're looking for shenanigans, well, I can help you there as well!

But let’s start with my website. Everything on this site is 100% official and completely book related. I keep this as up to date as possible since this is the hub. If there is something you feel should be covered here and isn't, please leave a comment. I want you guys to be able to find all the information you need somewhere here!

Twitter- (Kiera Cass) Twitter is probably the way I communicate with my readers the most. It’s the fastest way to get information out, and I sometimes share things there before I do on my website. It depends. It’s a little bit of everything: book stuff, family stuff, lots of lyrics, and I like to do chats (a la Question Monday) there. I do not follow back, but I do read ALL of my replies. Even if I don't respond, I see you!

Facebook- (Professional: Kiera Cass) I do have a personal facebook page, but I am no longer adding people there if I do not know you and am in the process of deleting most unknown friends. Unless I ask you to, please don't send me a friend reqest. Also, I do not read the direct messages here. I post lots of book things on my personal page but am currently moving all bookish things to my author page. It is co-run by Samantha (who set up the page and ran it almost completely on her own for years, all the while giving me access to it. Very cool!) and myself. All official book things.

Tumblr- (partylikeawordstar) This started as a place to collect awesome fanmade art, AUs, etc. I reblog a lot of that, as well as a bunch of stuff about One Direction and the book world in general. I also tend to answer questions there because I can do it in a longer form than twitter. This is a pretty laid back version of me, and not intended to be a professional platform. I share things there because there's a fandom, but it's pretty chill. Tags I check: Kiera Cass, partylikeawordstar, The Selection, The Elite. Not The One because of random junk.

Youtube- (kieracass) My channel is a mix of things. I make lots of videos following the publishing process, as well as general videos about life, and there’s a bunch of stuff about my kids. I don't post there often these days, but I still love making videos.

Pinterest- (Kiera Cass) I do have boards dedicated to every book I've made at the moment. I also have ones about food, clothes, Rob Pattinson, and things that make me laugh. I don't update often.

Vine- (Kiera Cass) Almost exclusively videos of my kids. This is mostly for me and my family to enjoy, but you’re welcome to follow. Tags I check: KieraCass, TheSelection.

Instagram- (partylikeawordstar) This is a new one for me, and I don’t intend to use it very often, but you never know. Tags I might check: partylikeawordstar, KieraCass, TheSelection

There are a handful of other places you can find me as well like GoodReads and Google+, but I am never there. It's a waste to try to contact me through those mediums.

I hope this explains things and helps you decide what's most useful for you as a reader. Naturally, I can't participate in everything, so my time on certain places is limited. I would personally suggest you find me on twitter to be most up to date. Thanks for hanging out with me!

Fun things!

Hello, all! I just wanted to update you on a few things in The Selection world.

First, yes, back from Brazil, which was awesome. Hoping to find time to make a video, but not sure it'll happen! Maybe a blog post will be the best I can do. And France is just around the corner... like... this time next week holy poop!

Second, if you didn't know, there's a fanart contest happening on tumblr! Hop on over and make your best art. Prizes include signed books, a tumblr follow from me, and a one-on-one chat.

And three, there will be more to come from other places, but, for now, here is your first deleted scene from The Elite! You can find it under the bonus content section for The Elite listed on my BOOKS page. Enjoy!

#songscenematchup

THE ELITE has been out about 6 whole weeks now. And I’m shocked by how well some of you already know the details of the book! But my question to you is this: Could you identify a detail from an outside source? Specifically… a song?

Next Monday, June 10 at 4PM EST, I will be playing a little game with you guys via twitter. I will share (probably) a youtube link to one of the songs on the playlist for THE ELITE. Your job will be to respond with the proper chapter/scene. For instance, if the song was what I imagined in the background of Maxon and America in the garden stargazing, you would answer “Chapter 1, Maxon & America’s date!”… or something like that.

In return for your skillz, I will be giving you some pretty exclusive things including foreign editions of THE SELECTION, international swag, and probably some random stuff I have sitting around my office because that’s how I roll. Long story short: you can’t get this stuff anywhere else.

RULES! First, sorry, this is open to US residents only. But, yes, if you have a mailing address in the States, you can participate. Second, this will take place ONLY on twitter. So even if you posted a complete list of answers on facebook, you don’t win. Sorry. Three, you are only allowed to win ONE of the scene/song matchup prizes. And four, the winner will be the first correct tweet replied to me. No hashtag required, no runner ups. As to how many chance you’ll have… I don’t know. I’m thinking of doing 5 songs at the moment, but I haven’t finalized them, so we’ll see.

If you have any questions, feel free to tweet them at me, and I’ll retweet answers as necessary. I’m really excited about this, guys. I know you all know how important music is to me when I work, so I’m hoping this will be a fun way to start sharing the playlist and give you some well-earned goodies.

Getting Signed Books!

So you guys responded pretty quickly to that whole signed book thing, and I got a little message from my local B&N with some notes. Please keep the following in mind when calling to place an order:

They can only ship within the US.

They can only accept payment from within the US.

They can only accept payments via credit cards.

They cannot take requests for personalized books.

What will most likely be happening is that I will be signing some bookplates for them to keep on hand so you don’t have to wait for your book to ship. I’m hoping this will mean that more of you can get an autograph, since I can’t come everywhere. Thanks so much for your patience while we get this new system going, and do me a huge favor and always be nice to the people you talk to at my B&N. They’ve always been really great to me!

Again, if you want to call and order a signed book, here’s the number: 540.381.4923

New PO Box!

I'm moving! And my PO box is coming with me. If you ever want to send notes to me, please send them to:

Kiera Cass

PO Box 905

Christiansburg, VA 24068

And while we're discussing the new address, I also need to address a new policy. In the past, I've allowed people to send books to me along with a self-addressed stamped envelope, and I would sign books and send them back. Due to far too many mistakes that have ended up with me spending tons of money on shipping books, I can no longer do this!

If you would like a signed copy of any of my books, please call the Christiansburg, VA Barnes & Noble at 540.381.4923. You can purchase a book and pay for shipping through them, and I will hop over and sign things a few at a time, which will make things faster and easier for everyone! Also note that I do not respond to post mail. I rarely even answer emails anymore due to time restraints. But if you want to send me a note, I save everything. Thanks, guys!

General, The Selection

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here's a little gift from me to you. I promised a LONG time ago, I'd share some deleted bits from The Selection... Well, here they are. You'll find them saved under the bonus content for The Selection on the Books page so you can go back and read (and comment on) them whenever you like.

It's a bit embarrassing to share them as they are unedited and kind of crappy, but I think it helps for you guys to see that not every line you dream up has to make its way to the final version of the book. I hope you enjoy and don't laugh at me too hard!

Cool Things

Okay, a few things. First, yes, we have power again and are safe and sound! Thanks for all your concern over the last few days.

Second, in case you missed it, The Selection is heading to China! As with most of the translations, I'm not sure when it will be there, but I'm working on that. Honest!

And third, The Selection Series Facebook page posted the playlist for The Selection! A few quick notes about this: What You Wish For by Guster is on there twice, but it's only in the playlist once. And there are two songs on the list that playlist.com didn't have, but I wanted you to know they were in there: It's a Disaster by OK Go, and Spinning by Jack's Mannequin. I hope you have fun lining up songs and scenes!

In not exactly an update news, I'm hoping to share some info about the CW pilot soon. I have to get the ok from some peeps first!

And... that's it. This time next week, I'll be snuggling with Zuzu! Wahooooo!
